The HDD I’ve tested all are 2009 model, I don’t think those are consider old.
The lower transfer rate is due to the lag in the docking station. May be I am wrong, I thought we were talking external drive, right?
In case of internal, my 3 years old ST Barracuda 7200.11 500GB 7200rpm has a read transfer rate at 89MB/s.
I know what you meant by using a faster HDD. That’s why I have a raid 0 with 4 HDD in my PC. That raid drive can achieve >250MB/s. But are we talking about the 高清player的hard disk?
Sorry, I thought the Green being a slower drive was a well known fact just like the capacity, 1GB is not equal to 1024MB on HDD. Also, the place I usually shop at shows the rpm information.
Anyway, I personally dislike the way of WD’s marketing also. They label their drive with Green, Blue, Black, and Raptor, which is confusing. I would like a HDD companies release data like rpm, number of patters, cache size, and the “true” capacity not the 1GB=1000MB.

Agree. But my 5400rpm WD is half the price of a 7200rpm, and that’s why I choose the 5400 HDD for my media storage.
Higher RPM = Higher Vibration, is 7200rpm HDD is a must for these media player? Even a 5400rpm HDD is good enough for normal data transfer. I think a lower speed with less heat storage device is ideal for these players.
P.S. I don't own any of these player but purely from the specification, any HDD you can purchase from market now is good enough, even the slowest one.

The WD Green is not running at 5400rpm in “fully active mode”. It has a variable rpm with a range from 5400 to 7200 rpm.
