J.J. Abrams claims “Super 8” is not “Cloverfield” related


This is why I wait for confirmation before I go all in on a rumor like this one. Shortly after it was announced that J.J. Abrams new film, “Super 8,” could possibly have been a prequel to the 2008 monster film, “Cloverfield,” there were articles popping up everywhere claiming confirmation from reputable sources. However, I decided to wait until the smoke had cleared to see what was really going on with this “mysterious film project.” It turns out that Abrams was a little upset about the alleged “confirmation” and spoke out on his film’s behalf:

“"You have to check [out the trailer], but it has nothing whatsoever to do with Cloverfield, despite your expert reporting."

So while so many sci-fi fans and horror fans alike let out a little sigh, try to keep in mind that this is still a prominent film and it could still very well be the project that was announced involving both Abrams and Steven Spielberg. While Abrams will insist on keeping a lid on this project for now, it will only be a matter of time before it pops up on YouTube after it’s airing at 12:01 tomorrow morning. It sounds like a good film, but I think all this hype being thrown around in the wrong direction isn’t going to help it any. Especially since there’s already been rumors circulating that this might just be Abrams way throwing us off the scent. Although, consider this; why would he try to “throw us off” just hours before anyone can go down to their local theater and get a glimpse of it for themselves?

The film follows a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera in the seventies or eighties. When they develop the film, they notice that there's an alien creature in the frame.

My DVD recommendation for today is “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1956). A small-town doctor learns that the population of his community is being replaced by emotionless alien duplicates. Enjoy.
